This week, Cee invites us to share photos with/of water. When possible, water can make a nice backdrop for the subject of the photo. Here are examples of an egret and a heron on the shore.
Here are my entries for this week. The first photo was taken last year and I believe it’s a pintail duck.
The second one is some sort of hybrid. A Flickr friend thought it was a cross between a mallard and a crested domestic duck. It was very happy to swim with the mallards and regular domestic ducks in the lake.

Most of you who follow me know that one of my favorite places is the beach which is always a sanctuary for me. With this post I decided to share another sanctuary – our backyard. We are fortunate to live on a neighborhood lake which allows us to see plenty of waterfowl. Plus I make sure that there are feeders and birdbaths in the yard. Here are a few of the birds we have enjoyed this year

This week we are asked to share photos that depict a quiet moment in our lives. One of my favorite places to go is the beaches on Hatteras Island. Even in the summer – these beaches do not get crowded.
I also love the quiet of the morning where I can go around my yard with my camera and coffee and look for insects to photograph.
We are fortunate to live on a neighborhood lake where we can sit and enjoy the waterfowl go by and hear birds chirping all around us. It’s a huge reason why we have not sold a house that has grown too big for us.

I don’t rise as early most days as I have in the past. I’m sure this is due to working much less and having the liberty to stay up later at night. On a recent mid-morning walk, we had the opportunity to see this cormorant with a couple of turtles. They seemed to be enjoying the warm sun.

The theme is Get Outside. Last Friday we decided to go for a hike at one of our local parks – Seashore State Park. We have been going to this park since our dating years. There are lots of beautiful trails for hiking and biking with some near the water. Here are a few photos from our excursion.
The first thing we saw when starting the hike is a decorated tree
Here is a view of the water
These buffleheads were quite cute
I don’t know what this plant is called but it is often seen near water and marsh
