Lens Artists Challenge – Along Back Country Roads

This week, Beth of Wandering Dawgs has invited us to share images of back country roads. These photos are both local and also while travelling.

The first photo is on a walking path not too far from our home near the Great Dismal Swamp. Before autos were on the road, these paths were used for travel. I think these deer were as surprised to see us as we were them.

The next photo was taken in Santee, NC. We stumbled upon this BBQ place while exploring. Well worth the stop for some good eats!!

The last photo was taken is a town called Burke’s Garden in the western part of Virginia. There wasn’t a garden – but there were plenty of farms with barns.

Cee’s Midweek Madness Challenge

This week, Cee has posted one of her photos for us to choose ours for posting. I’ve decided on a children’s play area. Here are a few that I took earlier this year.

This mural changes periodically with children from the surrounding area painting it.

Lens Artist Challenge – Getting Away

We recently left Virginia to visit family in Florida by way of Asheville NC and the Smoky Mountains (east side). While in the mountains we visited Chimney Rock. I have not been there since I was a kid. It’s still quite beautiful. Here are a few photos from that visit.

This view is from our walk up from the parking lot.

We are getting closer to climbing the stairs.

We went up the steps to the top but then decided to go higher to the “opera box”. These steps were a little more rugged than the ones you see in the above photo.

Once up there, this was our reward.

On our way down – I was glad that we wore sensible shoes.

Lens Artists Challenge – One Photo Two Ways

This week Tina is hosting the challenge and asking us to show different edits of the same photo. First up is a mono conversion of a flower. Personally I prefer the monotone over the color in this instance.

The second one is of some cute baby ducks using a different crop for each. I think I prefer the tighter crop in this instance because my eye goes the the baby duck and not the muck they are standing in.

Last is some Photoshop magic using the sky replacement tool to create a sunset in this photo. If you haven’t played with this tool, it’s fun to see if it can work for you.

Len’s Artists – It’s a Wonderful World

This week – Amy is hosting the challenge – It’s a Wonderful World using inspiration from the song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. Here are my examples for the lyrics – I substituted a sunset for a rainbow 🙂

I see trees of green, Red roses too, I see them bloom, For me and you, And I think to myself, What a wonderful world

I see skies of blue, And clouds of white, The bright blessed day, The dark sacred night, And I think to myself, What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow, So pretty in the sky, Are also on the faces, Of people going by, I see friends shaking hands, Saying, “How do you do?” They’re really saying”I love you”

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow, They’ll learn much more, Than I’ll never know, And I think to myself, What a wonderful world

Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Oh yeah
