Anne is leading this weeks challenge on sharing our new experiences. Less than a year ago, we moved from a suburban area to a more rural area to be closer to family. Getting to know the area has been full of new experiences. I have gotten used to longer drives for shopping and doctor’s appointments and but don’t miss the traffic of our former area. I love that we are so close to water including the North River, Albemarle Sound and Currituck Sound. I can drive 5 minutes and sit by a body of water.

Also, a beautiful sunset on the water is minutes away.

We are 15 minutes from the beautiful beaches of the Outer Banks.

I’ve seen and photographed a couple of new (for me) birds near our home.
Eastern Phoebe

Yellow Bellied Sapsucker

Brown headed Cow Birds

Unknown bird – maybe an immature sparrow (I’d love to hear if anyone knows the ID of this bird)

Lastly, our main reason for moving here was to be closer to family and grandchildren. It is now quite easy for us to go see them and vice versa which is definitely a new experience. In the past – it took a little extra planning and usually a pet sitter and an overnight bag since we were about 2 1/2 hours away. Now – we can jump in the car and get to them in 30 minutes or less.

Taking on a move like this in your early 70’s can be daunting and there can be a lot of doubt along the way but thus far I have no regrets and am enjoying our new life here.
